郭冠英坦承自己是就是范蘭欽後，立即遭到新聞局免職，郭冠英接受媒體訪問時表示，他承認自己就是范蘭欽是「政治出櫃」，是不再偷偷摸摸的愛國，而他對於新聞局把他免職能夠諒解，強調月底前就會回台灣，要把事情清楚，也會依法對免職處分提出申覆。而傳出李敖聽到這個號稱小李敖的被開除，馬上透過媒體要捐他一千美金，表示聲援。
獲知遭免職的郭冠英接受媒體訪問時透露，當年江南案時，他偷偷將政府機密文件交江南家屬去打官司，在當時是背叛政府的行為，但時代改變之後，證明他這是愛國的行為。而他原本「只想好好吃口飯、偷偷摸摸地愛國」，現在承認自己就是范蘭欽，是政治出櫃、是以真名來愛國。郭冠英：『我被逼出來以真名來愛國，而不是像過去的20年，我是隱名埋姓的在愛國，就是這麼樣的不同，至於被逼出來真名的愛國，就像政治出櫃。』
郭冠英並說，范蘭欽的言論只是知識份子發抒個人想法、對社會批評，是盼望盼中華民國能夠存在得更好，雖然他因此被免職，但他視為是國家的恩典，也是堅持作為一個中國人的回報。郭冠英：『我這可以說是國家對我的恩典，最後可以說是我作為一個，堅持作一個中國人的回報，我不怪任何人，我非常滿意。』
郭冠英強調，他熱愛中華民國，恨的是台獨的理念，他對新聞局及整個政府毫無怨言，他說今天如果換他是新聞局長，在壓力之下，對范蘭欽事件也會做出同樣的決定。但他也質疑「蓄意欺瞞」與「言行不當」是否已達足以記兩大過免職的程度，他表示月底前會返回台灣，會把事情說清楚，並循體制提出申覆，即使申訴不成，他相信，在中華民國仍然可以找到一口飯吃。

Famous Taiwanese politician Li Ao 李敖 sponsored US$1000 in support of a cyber-activist Mr. Guo Guan Ying 郭冠英 who paid a huge price this month to lose his senior civil servant post and pension of few hundred thousand.

Mr. Guo is blogger strongly supporting Pan-Blue-Camp and oppose the Independence of Taiwan. He had been in the past 20 years wrote and blog online with secretive moniker of Fan Lan Qin 范兰钦. He took very strong position and firmly attacked his opponents in the Pan-Green-Camp or pro-Independence Camp. These online activities does not fit his sensitive official career as a news bureau leason diplomatic officier in Canada. It is very sensitive especially President Ma Ying Jiu is strongly against the politics between Taiwanese from Taiwan vs other Provinces.

Mr Guo's cyber-oppnents had recently exposed his identity and proved who he is. which after brief initial denial he had bravely admitted. Upon his admittance of his secrative blogger monika he had been dismissed from his high civil servant post due to so called Improper Public Conducts. He paid a big price for his Cyber Activism.

It is common even in Singapore for Bloger & Cyber Activists to pay one form of price or another. E.g. Mr. Gopalan Nair. Mr. Nair also received some form of support and sponsorship for his contributions, I call the Singaporeans to further support him.

When this kind of supports continues it motivate the fighters to go further and longer against the corrupted and incompetent famiLEE LEEgime :-)

Burmese Activist marked Human Rights day with mini-exhibition

This was held by Burmese activists at Peninsular Plaza today.

Arts articles and photos were their exhibits, and Singaporeans went to show support.

The plaza's management was not very happy and their manager & security guards went to raise issue and demanded them to remove exhibits that were stuck on the wall for display. No major incident, but Burmese were told that in future they need to apply for permission from the plaza's management. :-)

Isn't it Draconian even within a private building? If it was a buffet or official opening with lunch spread & bouquets be placed outside of their shop, does that require management approval then? This is just the political messages that caused over-reaction of the management isn't it?

NTU Students Protested at Speakers' Corner

I recorded few hundred Mega Bytes of videos at Speakers' Corner this afternoon for a protest staged by some students from Nanyang Technological University, but I have no bandwidth right now to upload them yet, since I am still occupied with uploading videos of Mr. JBJ's funeral. I will upload at least the MP3 audio if not the video. It is quite substantial amount of data and will need long time to upload.

The students had a large banner made crudely and placed on ground of the field. And they had delivered speeches, while having many many cameras to record them all. It began at about 1630Hr and lasted beyond 1800Hr.

The protest was made against NTU's internal publications' censorship regarding a news reporting some visits made by SDP's Dr. CSJ recently in campus.

This is a very positive sign that students are getting more vocal and active and that they received support from activists and received attention of media. I encourage the students to continue to stand up for what they can identify as unfairness and faults that need to be voiced out against. :-)

The BN doesn't 'get' the Internet

The directive goes out from MCMC to TMNet and other ISPs operating in Malaysia - they are to block access to RPK's news site, Malaysia Today.

Very quickly, RPK gets wind that his readers in Malaysia cannot gain access to his news site. In response, he sets up mirror sites and gets word out through Malaysiakini, the blogosphere and the major Malaysian mailing list nodes.

Sure enough, most of his regular readers get wind of this and are able to access his site again. The blogophere erupts against the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission and the Barisan Nasional government. Malaysia Today is once again accessible and worst still, for the BN, its actions have raised the ire of the blogosphere.

This recent episode captures the essence of the BN's attitude towards the Internet - they just don't 'get' it.

It would be an understatement to say that the BN leadership, as a whole, has little inkling as to how public opinion is shaped and how political news is disseminated in cyberspace. Its attitude towards bloggers, blogging and the blogsophere, for one, has been reactionary, erratic and inconsistent.

Embracing the blogosphere

Immediately after the March general election, there was a rush within the BN towards trying to understand the role of bloggers and the blogosphere in influencing the election results. There was even talk of making it compulsory for current and aspiring BN representatives to have their own blogs.

The then newly-minted Information Minister Ahmed Shabery Cheek publicly stated that the government would engage with bloggers and even took the step of inviting bloggers to share their views on an RTM programme. One of the first bloggers invited onto this programme was none other than Raja Petra Kamarudin, or RPK. The schizophrenic nature of the BN government was demonstrated when RPK's news site was recently blocked.

Six months after the March elections, how much have the BN representatives responded to the call to set up their own blog sites? Not much, apparently.

Of the 85 BN MPs in Peninsular Malaysia, only 13 of them currently have their own blogs (15%). In contrast, 59 out of the 79 opposition MPs (Ibrahim Ali, who is an independent, is excluded as are East Malaysian MPs because blogs are not so important there), or almost three quarters have their own blogs.

Of course, having a blog does not mean that these blogs have a wide reach or even that they are regularly updated. Some of these blogs were set up just prior to the March general election and have not much updated since.

One notable example is the blog of the Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (http://limguaneng.wordpress.com/). But a majority of the blogs run by opposition MPs have fresh content and have been set up to disseminate news concerning and views of these opposition MPs.

Is it important for BN MPs, many of whom are ministers or deputy ministers, to have their own blogs? Can they not depend on the websites of their ministries and online media coverage to disseminate news about their activities and their views?

Arguably, many BN MPs are stuck in this mould of thinking, reliant on the mainstream press to cover their every move and thinking that this is sufficient. What many of them do not realise is the cyberspace is a totally different media 'universe' as it were and that having coverage in the mainstream press does not guarantee that this will be replicated online.

Why the anti-BN bias online?

Anyone who regularly surfs the Net for political news would attest to the fact that anti-BN news and views dominate cyberspace. This is partly the BN's creation since its stifling of the mainstream media has forced the public to rely on alternative online news sites and blogs. BN's online absence means that it does not have an effective and credible means of 'neutralising' the online news bias against it.

In cyberspace, if a politician does not have an identity or branding, someone else will do the branding for him or her. In this case, that 'someone' usually goes by the name 'Google'.

A simple exercise illustrates this. If one did not know much about Jamaluddin Jarjis, the former minister of science, technology and innovation and current MP of Rompin, a 'Google' search will reveal him as the minister who made racist remarks against an Indian student while in the US and the minister who was accused of groping a promoter at a nightclub in KL.

In the past, the BN could rely on a pliant media not to report any offensive remarks that may have been made 'accidentally' by a BN politician. Now, it is likely that such remarks would likely be picked up by an online newspaper such as Malaysiakini or an observant blogger. Once such news gets onto cyberspace, the fallout is almost instantaneous.

Bloggers will follow up with negative posts criticising the politician in question which will then lead on to more posts and more negative reactions. The effect is multiplicative which explains why most Google searches associated with BN politicians almost lead to negative blog posts.

Google's algorithms automatically take note of the sites which registers the most links in relation to certain politicians in question and these links are usually related to something foolish that a politician has said or done rather than something associated with his or her ministerial responsibilities.

What money can't buy

The BN is not used to playing the role of the underdog in the political sphere. But it is clearly outmanned and outgunned in cyberspace. The number of blogs which can be categorised as anti-BN or anti-establishment significantly outnumber the blogs which are supportive of the BN.

This is especially evident among the Malaysian Alpha-bloggers including RPK, Rocky's Bru and Jeff Ooi (left). An examination of the blogroll of most of the social-political bloggers finds the usual suspects, most of whom are anti-establishment. In fact, it is hard to name a respected blogger who can be categorised as pro-BN.

The BN cannot overcome this disadvantage in cyberspace by throwing money at the problem. The BN cannot bribe or buy its way into cyberspace.

One of the main reasons why the number of anti-BN bloggers vastly outnumber pro-BN bloggers is that blogging is an activity which requires a lot of personal commitment and passion. The bloggers who gain recognition have done so because of their willingness to share their honest views on the issues of the day on a regular basis.

Pro-BN supporters, perhaps more concerned with contracts and political positions, are not similarly motivated. But even if the BN could pay a whole army of bloggers to set up pro-BN blogs, they would be facing an uphill task to convince the already skeptical reading public of their credibility.

This is not to say that none of the BN's policies can be defended or that the opposition is free from criticism. But for a pro-BN blogger or even a BN MP to gain the same kind of cyberspace respect as Jeff Ooi or Rocky (right), he or she has to be free to criticise the BN as well as the opposition in equal measure.

The mentality of the BN follows the 'either you're for us or against us' philosophy. The party that does not allow its backbenchers to defy the whip would surely not allow one of its own to use his or her blog to criticise the BN in equal measure as the opposition.

Herein lies of one the realities of cyberspace which the BN has not yet grasped. The inherent anti-establishment bias in cyberspace means that a blogger can gain an audience and credibility by just attacking the BN.

After all, this was what Jeff Ooi was doing before he became an MP. But a pro-BN or BN MP cannot hope to gain the same level of respect or the same reach if he or she were to just repeat the party line in cyberspace.

Kit Siang, the Internet trailblazer

That cyberspace has an anti-BN bias is partly the BN's own making. The strict controls on mainstream media drove the public to alternative news sources online and for the more motivated, to create blogs as channels to vent their anti-BN views.

The same strict controls are also responsible for driving opposition MPs to the blogosphere and cyberspace. Perhaps no opposition politician has embraced cyberspace more than Lim Kit Siang. He wrote about IT issues as early as the mid 1990s.

He was one of the few politicians who uploaded his press releases on his own personal website. He was one of the key drivers in continuously upgrading DAP's website, publishing the press statements of its MPs and Aduns on its website and also encouraging its representatives to start blogs of their own.

One could say that Kit Siang was made for the Internet age despite his age. He is probably one of the few senior politicians who still does his own online research and is probably a voracious consumer of online news.

Kit Siang's blog (http://blog.limkitsiang.com/) is probably one of the most visited social political blogs in Malaysia as evidenced by the numerous comments he gets after every posting.

Anwar Ibrahim's website (http://www.anwaribrahim.com/) is much slicker and reminds me of a website of an aspiring US presidential candidate. It is more comprehensive than Kit Siang's blog in that it has sections where one can make financial contributions, request Anwar to speak at events and view his past speeches and op-eds.

He also has a blog (http://anwaribrahimblog.com/) which has his public schedule, YouTube videos, news items featuring Anwar as well as his press releases.

Even Dr Mahathir Mohamad (http://www.chedet.com/) joined the blogosphere when he found that the free access he had to the mainstream media when he was the PM was not so accessible after he left office. His blog has since reached the six-million-hits mark and he continues to lob verbal grenades against Pak Lah's administration.

In contrast, no BN senior leader can claim to have the same kind of Internet presence or traffic. It remains to be seen if Najib's recently launched website, (http://www.1malaysia.com.my/), will get the same kind of attention which Dr M's blog receives. Without fresh and honest content, it might prove to be a short-lived phenomenon.

But some BN politicians do 'get it'

It would not be fair to place all BN politicians in the same broad basket. Some of them have quickly jumped onto the blog bandwagon perhaps none more so than Dr Mohd Khir Toyo, the former Selangor menteri besar.

He was one of the first BN leaders to start his own blog after the disastrous election results in his own state (http://www.drkhir.com/). He finds himself in the unfamiliar territory of being the leader of the opposition. His blog has quickly found traction among those Umno supporters who are unhappy with Pak Lah's administration.

Perhaps the most hated person in the Malaysian blogosphere, Khairy Jamaluddin, also has his own website (http://www.rembau.net.my/) which was started just before the March general elections. It will take more than his own website to counter all the negative posts on him in the blogosphere but a recent blog entry criticising MCMC's decision to block access to RPK's website garnered quite a bit of publicity both online and offline.

But both of them were superseded by Shahrir Samad. Long known as one of the more outspoken leaders within Umno, Shahrir started blogging when he was in political 'exile'. His then office in Sri Hartamas was emblazoned with the sign 'Shahrir-Umno' and his 'experience' on the Internet probably explains why he currently runs four websites, two of which are regularly updated (http://www.shahrir-umno.com/main.php, http://www.ahliparlimenjb.com/, http://umnojb.com.my/umnojb2008/, http://shahrirsamad.blogspot.com/, http://shahrirsamad.blogspot.com/).

Not all of Umno's forays into the blogosphere have been successful. Ali Rustam is probably Umno's only blogging menteri besar (http://www.mohdalirustam.com/) but he quickly found that cyberspace can be a very unforgiving place when a post criticising the Selangor Pakatan government for allowing a pig farm project approved by the outgoing BN government to go on was quickly inundated with negative comments. He has since disabled comments from his blog, one of the surefire ways to decrease readership.

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah's foray into the blogosphere has also been uncertain. It is not clear that the one blog dedicated to Ku Li's activities (http://mykuli.blogspot.com/) is actually run by him. It comprises mostly of other blog posts about Ku Li and some news items covering his activities.

While it has received over 600,000 hits, there are very few comments following each post. Ku Li would generate much more traffic and attention to himself if he took a page out of Dr Mahathir's playbook by posting some entries actually written by himself instead of relying purely on secondary sources.

Be my Facebook friend

If external political competition does not galvanise BN politicians to have a web presence, perhaps internal political competition might. It is instructive to note that almost all the main contenders for the top positions in the upcoming MCA party elections have their own websites or blogs.

Ong Tee Keat (left), the front-runner for the position of the president of MCA, has the most comprehensive website (http://ongteekeat.net/) featuring news items, his manifesto and regular blog post in both Chinese and English.

The other possible contenders for the positions of president and deputy president also have their own websites including Ng Yen Yen (http://www.drngyenyen.com/), Liow Tiong Lai (http://www.liowtionglai.com/English/Main.aspx) and Fong Chan Onn (http://www.fongchanonn.com.my/). Indeed, Fong's comments about the injustice of the recent ISA arrests were picked up from his own blog.

It is unlikely that the BN politicians will be able to overcome the lead of many of the opposition politicians, at least in terms of eyeballs. A majority of BN MPs still do not have an online presence despite the low barriers to entry. After all, it doesn't take much effort to start a blog. The opposition MPs, because of their relative youth and because of their younger staff, are much more attuned to the newest developments in cyberspace.

Take social networking for example. Only three BN MPs in Peninsular Malaysia have Facebook accounts (Mukhriz Mahathir, Shabery Cheek and Khairy Jamaluddin) compared to 21 opposition MPs.

Three opposition MPs, Anwar Ibrahim, Nurul Izzah and Lim Kit Siang, top the list of MPs with the greatest number of Facebook friends - 5,000 and counting. In contrast, someone set up a fake Facebook account for Pak Lah and he currently has seven Facebook friends.

The online advantage on the part of the opposition does not guarantee them electoral success. There is no replacing the 'offline' activities that are part and parcel of what political parties and politicians need to do - the constituency servicing, the face-to-face meetings, the ceramahs, and so on. But the Internet has become such a key component of the political battleground that any party that ignores its importance is likely to find itself handicapped.

The BN establishment will not 'get' the Internet anytime soon. But it might have to learn fast if it finds itself in the unfamiliar position of being in the opposition at the federal level and denied automatic coverage in the mainstream media. After all, necessity is the mother of invention.

By making these films & videos, artists and activist will be contributing significantly to Singaporean reform.

Controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin was arrested today under the Internal Security Act for allegedly being a threat to security, peace and public order.

According to Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar, the 58-year old father of five would be detained under Section 73(1) of the ISA, which allows for detention of up to 60 days.
“The police will do an assessment during this period and if they feel he should be held more than 60 days, the police will then refer to me,” Syed Hamid was quoted as saying by The Star.
The minister also confirmed that the Sin Chew Daily, The Sun and Suara Keadilan were issued show cause letters. "They have been given a week to reply," he added.
Raja Petra's wife Marina Lee Abdullah (right) earlier told Malaysiakini that 10 police personnel from Bukit Aman came to their home in Sungai Buloh at about 1.10pm to arrest him.
When Malaysiakini contacted her at 1.25pm, the police personnel were still there. However, Raja Petra - popularly known by his initials RPK - was taken away to an unknown destination at 1.50pm. The police also confiscated some books and VCDs.
On Sept 6, Syed Hamid had warned that RPK, who edits the popular news portal Malaysia Today, could be charged under the ISA for comments allegedly insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad.
The minister said several religious groups - Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim), Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (Maiwp) and Federal Territory Religious Department (Jawi) - had lodged police reports against him.
The groups had complained Raja Petra's comment in an article entitled 'I promise to be a good, non-hypocritical Muslim' allegedly used sentences that insulted Muslims.

The government ordered the blocking of the Malaysia Today website two weeks ago, but the ban was lifted yesterday.
The ban together with Syed Hamid's warning to invoke the ISA had sparked a public furore against government censorship of the Internet.
Opposition parties too accused Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's administration of attempting to gag the press in a bid to salvage his party's sinking popularity.
Second time under ISA
Raja Petra is also alleged to have allowed comments to appear on his website that degraded Islam and Prophet Muhammad in an article entitled "Not all Arabs are descendants of the Prophet".
This is the second time that RPK, a member of the Selangor royal family, has been detained under ISA, which allows for indefinite detention without trial.
His first arrest under the tough security law was on April 10, 2001. RPK was detained as part of a crackdown against reformasi activists in which nine others were also held.
At that time, he was webmaster for the now defunct FreeAnwar.com site.
Raja Petra was subsequently released after 53 days in detention. However, six of the reformasi leaders were eventually sent to the Kamunting Detention Centre in Taiping where they were detained for two years.

Charged earlier for sedition, defamation
The controversial blogger was earlier charged with sedition and defamation after linking Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife to the sensational murder of a Mongolian woman.

In that case, a close friend of the deputy premier - Abdul Razak Baginda - was charged with abetting the murder of 28-year-old Altantuya Shaariibuu, whose body was blown up with explosives.

Two police officers from an elite force, whose duties included guarding the prime minister and Najib, were also charged with the killing.

The ISA, which human rights groups have pushed to have abolished, provides for renewable two-year periods of detention without trial and is normally used against suspected terrorists.

It has also been used to lock up opponents of the government, and last year five Hindraf leaders were detained three weeks after mounting a mammoth rally in the streets of Kuala Lumpur on Nov 25.

http://malaysia-today.net/ is a blog by famous royal member blogger Mr. Raja Petra Karmarudin, who had been charged for sedition and his blog had been blocked by Malaysian government this week.

As my own token to support Malaysian Bloggers and Reformasi movement, I just setup a quasi mirror site at http://malaysia-today.http3.net/ and I just tested it working from Singapore. I am asking those within Malaysia now to help me test if that works in Malaysia & spread it out to the Malaysian who had been unable to read Mr. Raja Petra's Malaysia Today website. :-)

This mirror is in USA within server and domain under myself.

I am calling other Singaporeans to do similar support to Malaysian bloggers and fighters, help them now, and later we will need them to help us. This healthy collaboration must get started.

Seeing the TRUTH behind the smokes

I am posting this in respect of my friend Mr. M. Ravi who is an activist human rights lawyer.

It is very clear that famiLEE LEEgime had a persistent pattern of exploiting whistle blowers' personal weaknesses such as mental conditions to get away from their own scandals. I urge the Cyber Community to exercise wisdom and power of sharp observations. When whistle blowers and persons who accused famiLEE LEEgime of very serious scandals, such as Mr. Robert Ho and Mr. Boon Suan Ban, the famiLEE LEEgime acts quickly to commit them to mental hospitals and via that White-wash themselves.

This filthy tactic had been repeatedly used before.

It does not only discredit the people who raised alarm against the scandals, it silent the critics, and serves the foul goal of fixing the critics as well as deters others from making similar whistle-blowing or criticism. The tactic also abused Institute of Mental Health as a political prison, which is a tactic notoriously used by the ex-Soviet Union.

Mr. Robert Ho accused Lee Kuan Yew famiLEE LEEgime of vote rigging at Cheng San GRC where Mr. JBJ contested in 1997 General Elections. He found the independent eye witness after long efforts, his persistent investigation is appreciated. He had tried for long time asking for my help to investigate and convince people. I did helped Mr. Ho in this, but not as much as he asked for.

Mr. Boon Suan Ban dug out the scandal of Yong Pang How. His family is so afraid and totally surrendered and complied with the famiLEE LEEgime. The scandal had been sealed up by famiLEE LEEgime this way.

These scandals exposed are very sensitive and hard to believe matters. By exploiting the accusers' mental weaknesses it is the most easy way to white-wash any political filths.

We must be able to see the truth behind the smokes.

Mr. Ravi had many very intensive and hostile encounters with the Sri Marianman Temple, the famiLEE LEEgime's police was called to that temple many many times. But NEVER was Ravi arrested nor charged with ANY of these matters over the whole of past few years. During these emergencies, I had been called to rush to the Sri Marianman Temple several times over the years. I can testify to this.

However, at this time, he got charged for the matter at the Jamae mosque at a timing when he personally filed lawsuit that is much more sensitive then the SDP defamation suit. Whatever these things Ravi had accused can mean treasonable death penalties on Lee Kuan Yew & SR Nathan.

Mr Ravi actually wanted to file another criminal matter, and he showed me the Magistrate Complain forms (not yet filed) against Lee Kuan Yew regarding the connection of Singapore's investments in Myanmar with the huge narcotics syndicate of Loh Shing Han family. The famiLEE LEEgime knows what are Ravi's moves.

They did not arrested Mr Ravi on 3rd August at the mosque, but waited till 11.Aug.2008 then quickly arrested and charge him on the same day and asked the court to immediately commit him to IMH.

That showed that they finally decided to make use of the incident at the mosque to fix Ravi. They have many other cases that they could use against Mr. Ravi which are all related to Sri Marianman Temple, but why did they not use these cases and selected the mosque matter instead?

Because the Sri Marianman Temple's case is related to the Criminal Motion filed by Ravi. And because there are many inter-related matters between Ravi and the Sri Marianman Temple, to make the case not just complicated but exposing too many things that they need to hide.

Most importantly when the case of mosque go to trial the famiLEE LEEgime is not so vulnerable. In comparison if the Sri Marianman Temple's case goes to trial, everything will work towards Ravis' advantage and objective.

No matter how many times did Ravi quarreled and causing famiLEE LEEgime's mata to be called down to the Sri Marianman Temple, the famiLEE LEEgime's mata will not arrest nor charge him. Even SDP's leaders knows what happened in the past years at the Sri Marianman Temple with Mr. Ravi.

What happened at Majid Jamae is golden opportunity for the famiLEE LEEgime. It is unrelated to scandal which Ravi want to expose at all, it is a matter unexpected by everyone who is familiar with what is going on all these years.

The charges framed by famiLEE LEEgime against Mr. Ravi is very very selective.

No matter what resistance I faced or what critics I face, I must point out these things and focus the spot-light on the dirts hiding behind smoke screens. I will not let famiLEE LEEgime's bastards get away by exploiting some weakness suffered by my activist friend Mr. Ravi, the bastards had got away too many times pulling these IMH tricks.

In famiLEE LEEgime's Court on 16.April.2008

Was in famiLEE LEEgime's court on 16.April.2008 for the 2 charges they framed on me regarding Tak Boleh Tahan Protest. This was a Pre-Trial Conference.

For the 3rd straight time in the court, I repeated my demands to the famiLEE LEEgime and had the judge took note of these:

Give me the list of evidence
Give me the list of witnesses
Give me the copies of mata videos (they got 2 cameras) to be admitted as evidence
Return the mata seized handphones unless you can show relevance and use as evidence

I showed the judge a receipt of mata seizure including not one but 2 of my handphones, and batteries and SIM cards, plus my video camera tripod.

I told the judge regarding handphones:

I have 2 prepaid SIM cards deducting pre-stored values daily, costing me $$$
When values ran out I will lost my telephone numbers
I have contact list of lawyers inside my phone needed for my defend, it compromised my defend in obstruction of justice to take my phones away from me
I am not able to contact my defense lawyers nor they could reach me
My business customers unable to contact me
I need telephone number to reach my witnesses for this case

In previous Pre-Trial Conference, I asked the judge to rule a date by which the prosecution have to complete their claimed on the handphones, which are totally irrelevant. That by this day they are to return the phone or tell the court what are the phones' relevance to this case of alleged illegal assembly and procession.

The famiLEE LEEgime's court sided their incompetent mata & AGC. Didn't rule anything.

On 16.April.2008, the judge still did rule, when I raised that again. And judge side the prosecution to buy time - another 3 weeks adjourned till 6.May.2008 for further Pre-Trial Conference.

I had initially no objection to that. However it came to the issue of my bond / bail, I changed my mind. :-)

The AGC used their lame excuse to buy time, claiming that there are additional 7 persons being investigated for this case, claiming a total of 19, instead of 12 person involving in this case. They asked for more time.

I asked the judge to rule that I am to be waiting for trial without posting bond nor bail for these reasons:

I am very confident of acquittal for this case
I have dozen of witnesses to prove that I am not involved in alleged assembly& procession
I am pursuing against mata for wrongful arrest, wrongful confinement / detention
I am pursuing against mata for unnecessary restrain upon arrest
I am dedicated to fight famiLEE LEEgime on this cause there is no way I want to avoid the trial
The charge is frivolous and vexatious only for MAX S$1000 fines
All the other 11 arrested persons on this same case were originally on mata bail but lapsed and no longer on any bond - so why should I be on any bond?

I cited constitutional equal protection clause to say that it is discriminatory to put me on a bond.

The familEE LEEgime AGC and mata so far could not answer to any of my advances, kept evading and buying time, and the judge still sided them.

I told the judge then I am against the further delays as I want the case to be heard ASAP and be done with for myself, no more buying time by famiLEE LEEgime. I told the judge to record that due to the bond / bail I was unable to travel to Malaysia to pay respect and conduct maintenance on the graves of my uncle and granny during the customary QingMing which past about 2 weeks ago. Unless the do away with the bond.

The judge said I could make application to travel, but I already mentioned that I needed it immediately in the chamber, no reply was given to me by judge nor AGC. Sort of neglected my application made!

I told the court that I then preferred to have the bond canceled and I asked to be put in my QRP resort for number of days the judge thinks sufficient to cover 2 charges of each MAX S$1000 fines, after that be released without any bond. I don't mind to serve sentence before even they could manage to convict me. :-) The judge said can not do that! Note that I had already spent 48hours in Cantonment mata chu from 15.Mar.2008 to 17.Mar.2008.

What I plan to do is this, if the lame famiLEE LEEgime does not return all the seized handphones by 6.May.2008, I will refuse any further bonds and refuse to leave the court on 6.May.2008 asking to be kept in QRP :-) and I will begin hunger-strike in prison against their abuse of powers.

Like it was said today by Mr. JBJ at his Reform Party press conference, THE RULE OF LAW IS NONE IN EXISTENCE here.

I was invited by fellow activists to that private screening on 29.Mar.2008 attended by dozens of people. Initially my reply to the invitation was that I could not attend on that scheduled evening because I was expecting to be in famiLEE LEEgime's jail for case of Election Speeches with Dr. CSJ, but the case is now delayed till 11.April.2008 so I attended the screening of the 3 films. I found myself missing the date for filing my reply, but I will make application to allow me to file it late still.

It is interesting to watch these films that flashed back my unforgettable memories of them, I was part of all these 3 activism events which took place here in Singapore. I must congratulate these film and video activists, they did really well. And they did some really useful documentations for Singapore.

My call to Singaporean youth is to come out and take part with the activists, there is surely a role that you can contribute. Becoming a Video & film activist is one of the way. I suggested that film and video activists wear a sort of cargo vest painted with wordings printed in front and back such as "Citizen Journalist" or "Video Blogger", this will safeguard your interest and privilege similar with members of media, by clearly declaring your role. All you need is digital camera or handphone with camera built-in.

Our Singaporean video & film activists are doing very well and I am seeing their numbers growing as time goes by. There is a great experience pool to be tapped. I am not just supporting these guys, I am also doing videos on my blogs as well. One of the most exciting event I filmed recently is Tak Boleh Tahan protest. :-)

famiLEE LEEgime's Arrest & Charges for Protest = Chicken Feet

I am here to motivate activists again that we should not fear for famiLEE LEEgime's criminalization of our Rightful Civil Actions. There is just a small price to pay, which we will eventually LIQUIDATE the LEEgime and have these cowards payback for their own crimes which they had LEEgalized while criminalizing others for the same activities.

Under the current law of LEEgime which I had been charged, the MAXIMUM penalty is only S$1000 fine, nothing more than that can be sentenced by any judge. This is regardless of weather it was your 1000th repeated convictions, the penalty can never exceed this amount. Usually a first offender wouldn't even get a sentence exceeding even S$500. If you refused to pay the fine, your jail term should be just 2 to 3 days at most.

The lame famiLEE LEEgime in 2006 managed to put me in jail for just 10 days, in which I staged hunger-strike in prison for General Election Speeches, which the sentence was only $2000, and I refused to pay a single cent. :-)

I can tell you from my own first hand experience that it is very easy to fight the lame bastards of famiLEE LEEgime. Only tiny prices to be paid, for very effective results which often came with much unexpected bonus! I encourage activists to be fearless, and face the lame bastards down, up in the front. We can make the necessary differences for Singapore, it is worthwhile.

It is very difficult for famiLEE LEEgime to stop us when we know what we are doing. I am always willing to help and support activists' fight against the oppressive cowards of famiLEE LEEgime. Activists are welcomed to contact me for help or advises. :-)

A Vision to Overcome Totalitarian Print & Broadcast Controls

Inspired by HongKong Activists' FM102.8 efforts, I decided to write out some concepts to share with fellow activists of the region & the world here.

In the limited experience of Singaporean activists, we found that Internet is the easiest platform to over Totalitarian media controls. Our famiLEE LEEgime had for more than a decade tried in vain to fight down Cyber Activism. They will never win, and so far in our meetings with regional activists situations in Asia share a varied degree of similarities. In Singapore we look to fight out after the Cyber platform towards print & broadcast media, which are the remaining 2 last platforms that famiLEE LEEgime still clutch full control.

In examples of HongKong Indonesia & Philippines it could be the case that make-shift FM stations can be easy to setup and harder for Totalitarian Regimes to rid, in Taiwan under-ground cable TV nicked Forth Channel had in more than a decade back survived KMT Totalitarian Regime's banning and disruptions and got legalized after the fall of KMT Totalitarian Regime.

My view is to adopt the strategy of expanding activist controlled advantage from one media platform over to others. That in the case of Singapore is to divert efforts to transform the already reach political contents of Internet into Print & Broadcast media, especially during election period or other high contention period.

famiLEE LEEgime had in 2006 General Election banned Podcast and Internet Campaigning. This is the first area that Singaporean activists have to defy and counter-attack in all future elections. Internet platform must be FULLY UTILIZED by activists, if not in campaign for opposition, must be attacking Totalitarian LEEgime directly instead of promoting any opposition candidate. This can be done individually with totally no affiliation with any political party. Internet gallop poll, surveys, exit polls must be carried out defying all the banning laws of Totalitarian LEEgime. Doing this widely and internationally, LEEgime will not win in banning nor enforcing against Internet. International activist collaboration efforts and networking is the essential key wining strategy.

The very first break point into print media is to utilize advanced and high speed laser printers copiers. I had done that during 2006 General Election when famiLEE LEEgime abused lawsuits to sue our printers into submission and apology. 2 High Speed Copier / Printers were hired used in the entire campaign to continue printing news letters and election materials from which famiLEE LEEgime were suing regarding the NKF scandal we published. We continued to print / copy / publish the news letters for sale to raise funds for the elections' campaign activities. Without doing so the funds for rallies & expenses will be quite impossible.

Acquire High Speed Copier / Printers & installing in multiple locations, to produce / reproduce the rich political contents from Internet and books is one key direction that I pointed out and stress. This is the direct hit to overcome famiLEE LEEgime's print media control. Either distribute freely or sell the prints in every form possible, news letters, booklets or leaflets. Bring the messages to the public who are not accessing the Internet.

The technology in High Speed Copier / Printers is already very advanced and efficient as well as low cost. We must not overlook this advantage. The way to print out & copy contents from Cyber platform is very easy and straight forward as well as efficient. Skill is commonly mastered, and having prior DTP experience is not crucial.

Beside the printed media platform, we must look also into hitting out at broadcast platform, in FM & even TV. Audio & Video political contents are already vast and rich in the Cyber platform which we enjoy advantage to develop in the past decade. Similarly the technology to copy / transfer / relay these audio & video contents from Internet into broadcast platform is easily available at very reasonable cost.

I shared some advanced concepts of distributed FM relays which can be similarly applied to TV.

Tiny mobile relay boxes can be made easily and cheaply in large number and be inter-connected via Internet or GSM telephone network BOTH. Together they form an indestructible distributed network dispersed in the country. Therefore the Totalitarian Regimes will not be able to find any single place to raid and disrupt the boardcast.

Relay boxes are simple FM modulators or TV/ Video modulators, coupled with signal strength booster & antennas essentially. Can be powered by mains or batteries. They are low cost, light, simple and mobile. They can be made disposable, cost well below S$100 each. Connected they are fed either with audio with or without video signals via Internet podcast / video-cast or GSM telephone networks widely available.

Example popular household appliances that can be modified to make these relay boxes includes:

Station Programming & Broadcast server can be located outside the control of Totalitarian Regime in other countries, remotely operated via Internet. The cost of such facility is not too much more than a dedicated server, and FOC open source software are available to set them up. Basically like many FM stations in the USA which are one-man-show broadcasting 24hr x 365days. They remotely upload program contents via Internet or networks, and schedule their broadcast for weeks of programs in advance, and the scheduled media contents just feed to the radio broadcast accordingly without any person manning fully time.

To form up a relay broadcasting network via Internet, any single PC / Laptop connected to Internet receiving the live web-cast can be directly connected to a relay box to broadcast to a neighborhood several km in radius, this is the basic of a single node. Hundreds of these nodes make up the entire network. Similarly audio via GSM network can be fed from any GSM cellphone to a relay box forming a single node. These nodes can be fix location or even mobile. Similarly fixed line telephone can be fed to relay boxes. A mini relay port can be made of e.g. 10 fixed line, with digital answering machines connected to an Internet PC, this facility can both relay programs outwards to fixed lines as well as record call-in from people who wants to their voices on air, such a mini relay port can be as small as with only one home telephone line and board band connected PC. It can be also mobile with laptop and mobile phone in a WiFi serviced cafe such as McDonalds in Singapore. :-)

The above mentioned elements can be connected up flexibly & dynamically to form a distributed / dispersed broadcast network in any urban or even rural countries. The concept is my contribution, and the main features are low cost, effective and hard for Totalitarian Regimes to destroy / disrupt. Such a network can be quickly implemented, easily expended, and modified in many ways. It will be pain in the ass for any Totalitarian Regimes not just Lee Kuan Yew's famiLEE LEEgime :-)

The main reason I wrote this is to share with as many activists as possible. I hope our limited experience in Singapore will help people else where to fight against dictators and Totalitarians globally. I thank those who had been helping us Singaporeans in our fight. Lets pass on the favors to more people who need it. :-)

Cyber Activists' Online Video Technical Tips

Just to help Internet Activists / Bloggers / Video Activism fellows here, I had been asked some times how to take video down from YouTube & LiveLeaks etc and save on harddisk or CD/DVDs. Obviously this can be done but YouTube etc, don't like you to do so because they want everyone to go back to their site every time.

However this can be a problem because:

YouTube is blocked in some countries
YouTube is slow some times
You need to up-load else where
You need to keep a copy
etc

There are websites via which you can download any YouTube or similar video stored online e.g. liveleak.com, you just have to cut and paste YouTube's URL into these websites and they will let you save the video file by helping you to create a file as they take the video Flash Video steam from YouTube:

If you do this often you can actually find small handy utility programs that can help you save MecroMedia's Flash Video streams from YouTube etc, if you used any of these programs you don't need to even go via at of the above websites and your utility can Directly save YouTube's video steam on your PC:

famiLEE LEEgime's dogs full of hoax on the web

In the first place I doubt very much about many stories posted on internet forums and webs regarding the famiLEE LEEgime conducting formal investigations & harassments against cyber activists. You will hear and read lots of such stories. Vast majorities are hoaxes, composed by the running dogs of famiLEE LEEgime, their aim is to cause fear to put cyber activism at bay. Very lame and ineffective however.

In any true case of police investigation, formal procedure in accordance of Criminal Procedural Code (CPC) have to be followed. Officer have to deliver letters such as following examples:

To convince the internet community that the famiLEE LEEgime is interviewing you for some investigation, you better scan and publish their letter, mask your particulars with GIMP or photoshop before you put the image on internet. You will not be taken as another running dog hoax when you do so.

Unless there is a fraud or other serious offenses that law can allow mata to arrest you, they have to give you a letter such as what I have posted here to make an interview appointment. If they arrested you, they have to tell you formally that you are under arrest and what charge are they arresting you under. You are untitled rights such as calling lawyer or family or friends. They can not hold you beyond 48 hours without bringing you before a judge.

If you are not under arrest, you are free to choose a reasonable time to Assist their investigation, you don't have to follow their orders to restrict your freedom, you may leave the interview and have them make other appointments at your own reasonable schedule. You can take toilet break, lunch break, tea break during interview, you can tell the mata that you can only afford to give him 1 hour today, and he have to wait till next week to see you again if he can not finish his interview in 1 hour.

You can take your time to ask them to repeat their questions, you can pen down your own notes, on all questions they asked you, you can write down every words they spoke. Bring your thick note book and few pens. :-)

You must write down every word you answered in the formal record which you have to proof read and sign. Don't sign anything unless you are fully satisfied that it be your statement during that investigation.

No one is to deprive you of rest, food, drink, toilet, warm, cool or other physical pressure during investigation. Record any irregularity and expose them on internet. That is very important for you own interest.

If you feel that you had been threatened, ask them to give you a black & white of whatever they said, in formal police letterhead, signed with rank and name, then web publish that on Internet. They will know that you had read my blog, and they can save playing these punks with you.

I had been to police station where the illegally detained ignorant young activists, just stop them at the MRT stations and ordered them to be be taken to police station and then being transfered to other police station spending about 12 hours with mata bullies. And then their home searched without producing proper warrant papers and home photographed family member harassed & frightened, as well as their PCs taken away by famiLEE LEEgime, all done by abuse of power. I went to police station and confronted the commander and demand immediate access of the young activists who they claimed were not under arrest and only Assisting Investigations.

I told them I know the law and they better give me the replies in black and white, and I threatened to take them to court. They then released our activists after some delaying tactics.

If you are aware that you friend is in trouble with political cyber activism, please expose the case and inform us. We will police the police.

They are more afraid then you, take control!

To begin with, let me share my personal experience and my recall of experience of other activists. The famiLEE LEEgime is more afraid then activists, because they are much more vulnerable and they have MUCH MORE TO LOSE.

Their notorious profile of being a dictatorial regime full of oppressive and childish lame political measures is the 1st and foremost weakness of the famiLEE LEEgime. The higher you can raise the profile, the more sensitive the subject is, the more they are vulnerable and and as chicken as little girls. :-)

Activists take control.

The state machineries such as police are being abused as intimidation devices or harassment devices, although they are found to be ineffective, they are just deprived of better alternatives.

I can conclude that even the famiLEE LEEgime's kangaroo courts and prison are vulnerable and they are aware of their own helpless weaknesses. I am telling you from my very fresh and first hand experience.

To take control you need good information and helps, and this is what I had setup this blog for. Send me emails and I am happy to take some phone calls or meet you up if you are cyber activist facing famiLEE LEEgime's threats. Our pool of experience and information had been found very helpful and effective, among activists.

Keep us informed of your cases, and most importantly, KEEP THEIR ACTIONS EXPOSED - best on the Internet. The more you make them transparent the better you are protected against them.

Know your rights and learn more about laws
Handle them, and not get handled by them
Share the information and experience
Expose their tactics and tricks
Do not concede and insist on your rights
If you had been threaten or warned verbally, reject that and demand them to give it in witting, signed with rank and name and bearing official letter head. Then web publish their letters. :-)
Provide as little information as possible to the famiLEE LEEgime's employees.
Just the fact that they are investigating a cyber activist for political content itself is a very sensitive point to themselves
When being threatened or harassed, increase the sensitivity and raise the profile of the case, add contents and elaborate your contents, instead of removing your web contents.

Attorney General Chambers wanted me to remove my blog videos and cited me for contempt of court during my trial last year. The judge didn't want to even rule on that, despite I openly put pressure on him to do so.

Move forward and not retreat and as long as they learn that you can not be stopped by their lame threats they will back off, because as I said, the famiLEE LEEgime knows where they are vulnerable and is sensitive where they are hurt. We are in control.

As you can see, all these years I posted tons of most sensitive materials on my blog and forums, and the lame coward famiLEE LEEgime tried so hard to steer clear from giving me a trouble regarding my cyber political contents. This is the best proof regarding what they are.

They will only try to intimidate you, because they think you fit the profile of a timid activist and your web content are within the mild category that won't really hurt the famiLEE LEEgime much. They want to do their jobs so called by frightening you from your activism or make a boggy out of harassing you, in the hope to stop others activists by doing that to you.

Knowing that, you can turn the table around to play against them. You will have the necessary help if you voice up and contact me via this blog. Remember the rule, they are much more vulnerable and afraid than you.
